Now more than ever, America’s working families need champions in Washington who will put their needs and dreams first.
Democrats in the US House of Representatives have been the leading champions of working families. Over the last two years, they have fought to help America’s working families weather our country's economic storm and prevented the spread of economic hardship. But prevention, while necessary, is not progress and there is more work to do. We need to maintain our majority in the US House of Representatives so our leaders can continue to work on behalf of working families and create real progress and true prosperity for our country.
In order to continue the fight to help families recover from the economic crisis and build a better future for our children, the America's Families First Action Fund will work to engage voters across the country and educate them on the consequences of a return to the Republican policies that put big-business first and caused our economy to implode. If we were to lose the Democratic leaders who have fought to put America’s families first, we will lose the ground we have gained fighting against our nation’s economic crisis and we will see the dismantling of the American Dream.
One piece of the overall independent effort by Democrats in this election, America's Families First Action Fund (AFFAF), is a federal independent expenditure committee created to make strategic investments to help protect the Democratic majority in the US House of Representatives.
Using the latest research and technology, America's Families First Action Fund will work to engage voters through a strategic combination of communications efforts that will target those districts where they can make the most difference in tipping the balance for Democrats on Election Day.
Why we need to maintain a Democratic Majority in the US House:
Under the Democratic leadership in the US House of Representatives we have seen the greatest investment of resources ever made to help America’s working families including:
• Creating Jobs & Opportunity - Jobs legislation that saved or create 161,000 jobs for teachers and first responders, tax incentives for businesses to hire more Americans (4.5 million Americans have already been hired), unleashing billions of dollars to create jobs rebuilding highways and other infrastructure, and the largest investment in college aid in American history to prepare our kids for a bright future.
• Protecting Your Health - Expansion of health insurance of low-income children and children with pre-existing conditions, as well as reforms that reduce healthcare cost and hold insurance companies accountability to their consumers. Opening the door for lifesaving embryonic stem cell research. Providing help for those who care for sick or injured veterans and improve health care services to women veterans
• Minding Your Tax Dollars – Provided a tax cut for 98% of American families and restoring Pay-As-You-Go standards that require all new spending be paid for so they don't increase the deficit.
• Holding Big Business Accountable - New limits on the reckless practices of Wall Street and closing tax loopholes that have encouraged big corporations to ship American jobs overseas. A ban the worst practices by credit card companies and providing tough new consumer protections. Restoring the rights of women to challenge unfair pay and close the wage gap
